The Coach formed part of Southern Railway set no 216 and was used on the London, Tonbridge and Hastings line. It would have been a regular visitor to Robertsbridge. From 1960.it was used as a loose coach until withdrawal in October 1961. It was transeferred to the departmental service in December 1962 and renumber DS (later ADS 70163.
In use as a mobile office at Wimbledon from August 1969 and then foprmed part of the SR Control train until 1980.
Since preservation it has resided on the Great Central Railway and the Spa Valley Railway until transfer to the Rother Valley.
